Transformers: Dark of The Moon

Saturday, July 2, 2011

Few days ago, last day of June, I went to watch Transformers: Dark of The Moon with new set of friends.

It was awesome but..There's a but in my statement!

I couldn't say I had a pretty full course of satisfaction right after I watched it. It's like there's something missing. I've waited quite long for this film to hit cinema and yes I was agitated to watch it. But umpph, there's something missing.

I honestly think the CGI is marvelous. All the robots looked uber-cool in defined details, the action looked compelling and convincing. All of us audience could follow the pace of the actions unlike in the 2nd installments.

But the film sans the cheap romance and jokes would have been better. The jokes were cheesy and lame.

The new cast,Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was another eye-candy after Megan Fox. Both have the similar attributes, they can't act for sure! But in a heartbeat, I'd choose Fox.

The villains on the other hand lacked of something. There were few plot holes in rising the villains' plot of making their own ploy. Sentinel Prime's betrayal didn't look convincing at all.

Sentinel Prime, the main villain looked frail to me. Shockwave, the serpent-like robot is very amazing, it looked cool but yeah, he didn't do much of anything. Megatron barely existed in the movie.

The flow of the story is not even coherent. It's like there's not enough relation/explanation from one to another scene. Not even sync to the previous installment. What happened to the Cube's knowledge in Sam's brain? Too many questions in my mind. Forget it.

All in all, the movie was still awesome with stunning effects. It's far better than the 2nd installments.

The most eye-popping moment, is by watching at the sleek autobots (Mirage, Bumblebee, Wheeljack, Sideswipe) in their car modes. Did you see Mirage in car mode? It's red Ferrari 458 Italia. Sizzling hot!

Well I always have a thing for sports car. As a matter of fact, when I was a kid, I wanted to be a racer. Pfft..How pathetic. haha.

Okay. For those who still haven't watch Transformers, watch it and entertain yourself but don't expect too much. Haha. :D

P/s: Laserbeak is cool..!

X-men First Class

Last night, me and my friend went to watch this film. Right after work, went home for a quick shower then off to the cinema. We hadn't eaten anything for dinner, thus we bought sweet corns and popcorn to minimize our hunger pangs. I was quite disappointed with the seller.

I ordered a mineral water along with all the meals and I was certain I saw he entered the price of mineral water in the cash register. But when he gave me my sweet corns and pop corn, politely I asked for my mineral water. He said that I didn't say anything about mineral water and that one wasn't included in the bills, so he asked me to pay some more for mineral water. I was shocked and told him, "how could you forget about mineral water?" and quickly gave him some more money.

I didn't want to cause any chaos there as I wasn't in the mood to talk at all, I wanted to say different things and it seemed like different words came out. I guess that was his sustenance. NVM. But I was disappointed considering dishonest people are everywhere. Sigh.

Okay back to the film. At first, it was a bit slow for the characters to develop and less actions but it's understandable since this is a prequel, so the focus should be more on how the characters evolved and the strong bonding between Magneto and Charles Xavier.

This film is adapted from the comic books and yes, I didn't read it. But trust me, even for general audience like me, I honestly think it was a solid movie. But hey I did watch all of the X-men trilogies;X-men, X2, X-men: The Last Stand and last one, X-men Origins: Wolverine. The only less exciting about this film is the CGI parts as some of them looked very much unreal to me. Oh I think there were some lame scripts as well but nah, you won't be bothered by it.

The acting is superb. Everyone did a good job in portraying their characters and the flow of the story was well-related to the previous installments. It was awesome for a prequel.

James Mcavoy as young Prof. Charles Xavier is exceptional. Charles Xavier is seen to be quite of a laid-back type of person with a very gentleman way of speaking in previous installments. And James Mcavoy did exactly the same thing. In short, he is everything you would expect a young Xavier to be. I've always love his acting. Remember him in Becoming Jane and Atonement? He's a good actor. No doubt about it.

Not to forget Micheal Fassbender as young Magneto. He nailed it. Fassbender and Mcavoy, they have a strong chemistry which led to a brilliant performance. And kudos to all of the supporting actors. I just love seeing how things started at the beginning, how did they end up being together, how did they separate being rival and etc. There's nothing new on the side and it was driven the right way just as I expected it.

The pace of the movie was not too slow, nor it was too fast. It was just right in between, as a matter of fact I didn't realize the movie is actually more than 2 hours. I enjoyed every bits of it. I wrote it before saying how much I like for a pretty full course of satisfaction in the end of a movie, and I think I can safely say this is one of them.

The movie is almost pitch-perfect being a first class movie it is. If you still haven't watch it yet, go and watch it. Not a waste. Definitely worth seeing if you're a fan of superheroes movie.

P/s: I've always fall for James Mcavoy's piercing blue eyes. Awww. And his accent is just so lovely. Haha. :D

Kung Fu Panda 2

Sunday, June 5, 2011

Yesterday, me, dear mom and my brothers went out to watch a movie. I was going for Pirates of The Caribbean but then big bro said it's better to watch Kung Fu Panda 2 since we have little brothers. I don't mind since I wanted to watch both.

We didn't watch the 3D version, just normal 2D one. All of us watched the 1st movie and we liked it a lot. Now for the sequel, we liked it too. :)

The movie was just awesome with good choice of words like awesome, so hardcore, and etc. Not even a minute I felt like going out of the cinema or perhaps I was being bias since you know, I'm a sucker for animation. Pfft.

It was packed with action but fully integrated with comedy, sadness and moral. Though the storyline may have not been an original or could be a tad boring, the perfect voices and beautiful animation offered is enough to compensate.

Well if you're a fan of Kung Fu Panda, you should go and watch the sequel. This film is suitable for kids which make an excellent choice for a family outing. :)

I've watched few trailers while waiting for the movie to start. I even made a list for what's next to watch:

-The Adventures of Tintin (Steven Spielberg's is a must watch for me)

-Happy Feet 2 (I loved the 1st one, might as well watch the sequel)

-Transformers: Dark of The Moon (This a definite must. Period.)

Movies

Recently I’ve watched two old movies. Both were 2010 movies. I was looking for something to watch and I picked Conviction and Never Let Me Go from my many collections of movies. I have lot of movies collections and there are many movies I haven’t watch yet. No time, seriously. I prefer TV Series since each episode will only take like 30-40mins and I can watch the next episode tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow or the next time I’m free.

Back to Conviction and Never Let Me Go, both are not comedy movie.

1) First, I’ve watched Never Let Me Go starring Carey Mulligan, Keira Knightley, Andrew Garfield and etc. I only know these three. Haha. First of all, this movie is adapted from a novel by Kazuo Ishiguro with the same title. As always, I’ve never read the novel and I know some people who’ve read it saying something like there’s a plot hole and such, but come to think of it, you’ll never surpass the reader’s imagination or expectation. I mean come on; of course the novel is much better as opposed to the movie. In a novel, you could describe a feeling in a bit more detail and you could even elaborate scenes to match reader’s feelings and etc. Anyhow, the movie was good, interesting but a bit slow. Never mind.

---> The review contains spoiler

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The story revolves around three kids; Ruth, Kathy and Tommy attending Hailsham, a mysterious boarding school that has a secret. The school itself is pretty much weird but the students accept it just the way it is. They believed everything that has been told, do everything that has been set for them and even were secluded from the outside world. One day, the students learned about the secret from their teacher, that all of them are actually made to be a donor. They will eventually start the donation when they grow up. This is all started to extend human life or to replace organ that has been infected and these kids are all going to live until early adulthood, and soon will donate their organs. From that moment onwards, their life has been different. They started to live a little, experiencing sadness, love, sex as they grow up. They have been injected an idea that they were actually different from others but in reality, there’s no boundaries. Even though they were made to be a donor for consumption of people who need it, they are still human. The story also shows a triangle love between Kathy, Ruth and Tommy and of course the undying love between Tommy and Kathy. Here I quote Kathy towards the end of the movie

“I remind myself I was lucky to have had any time with him at all.”

At first, Tommy and Kathy started to have some sparks but then Ruth came in and out of jealousy, she’d been with Tommy and left Kathy all alone because she didn’t want to be the one who’s left to be alone. When Ruth had almost completed her third donation, Tommy, Kathy and Ruth gathered once again after almost 10 years being apart, Ruth started to tell the truth and asking Tommy and Kathy to meet Madame for deferral. This is another beauty of this story, that people have hopes. And they hope for something that does never exist, a deferral. They believe that a couple who’s deeply mad in love could ask for a deferral not knowing there’s no such thing. You can imagine how hard they must have felt when they know it didn’t even exist. They’ve been longing for that, keep on believing, having hopes but then it never exist. All of the students know what awaits them and never did once I see them rebel in any way; trying to escape, argue about the fact that they have to donate their organs and such. Instead they are all patiently waiting for their time to complete their donation because they were made to think like that. They don’t even know much about the outside world, they have been trained hence believing and accepting their responsibility to be a donor.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Over all I can say I was impressed by the beauty of this movie, the acting is superb especially Carey Mulligan (Well I always like her) and even the new Andrew Garfield. Keira is good too. I thought I know Andrew from some movie I couldn’t recall but then again, towards the end I remember it was from The Social Network, he’s the one who played the role of Eduardo Saverin. The cinematography and the music have its own beauty supporting the beauty of the film. The casting is amazing. Young Kathy exactly resembles Carey Mulligan. Young Ruth resembles Keira a bit. This is a good casting.

One thought to ponder, instead of letting the kids live, they have to give their organs to other people to extend their life. What right is there to create someone just for the sake of helping other people to live longer? Well I guess that’s the darkest of humanity’s period.

Here's what Kathy says at the end of the movie:

"What I’m not sure about is if our lives have been so different from the lives of the people we save. We all complete. Maybe none of us really understand what we’ve lived through or feel we’ve had enough time."

All I can say is that life is short and in every single thing that we do, there are consequences and sometimes we can learn a lot from our past and with the memories and mistakes of our past, we live stronger day by day.

2) Secondly, I’ve watched Conviction. Well considering I have written a long review about previous movie, I’m not gonna do one for this film. Haha. I’m just gonna say that this film starring by Hilary Swank, Sam Rockwell is based on the true story. Go and watch it if you like film based on true events/story. After I’ve watched this movie, all I can say is that never let things get in your way. No matter what, don’t give up and try your best for the best result will come in your way eventually. It is also a wonder to see someone who has such a passion to do whatever it takes for their family. If this is your case, would you sacrifice everything and try to correct the injustice? This film kinda reminds me of Gracie’s Choice.

If you wanna know how true it is from the actual story, you can read this interview: Betty Anne Waters.

This movie is about justice and I do believe justice is one thing you’re not able to measure. With authority, money and power, people can easily change justice system. Sigh.

The Light Of The Moon

Monday, December 13, 2010

I'm a sucker for TV series and having said that, The Vampire Diaries (TVD) is in my list too. I've never really blog about how I think about the series. So here it is. At first, I didn't really like Damon since you know I think he has too many facial expressions and I kinda hate him doing that. And I don't like Stefan too up until now. But yeah towards the end of season 1, I started to like Damon and now in season 2, I like him even more. In fact, I want him to be with Elena. Yeah, I'm in Delena ship. Ugh that sounds wrong. Haha.

Season 1 for me was not that good and I think that's just a platform for them to introduce the characters to us, or maybe a better way to say it, the characters are all developing. Okay honestly I can't really remember season 1 since I've watched it quite a long time ago. And I don't really like to replay the series all over again. The only series I could replay all over again would be sitcom like F.R.I.E.N.D.S or HIMYM. Oh White Collar is an exception too.
Whatever.

Now I've finished watching season 2 of TVD with episode 11, The Light Of The Moon being the last episode for this year. We have to wait till 27th January 2011 for the next coming episode 12. Here's the prome of coming episode 12, The Descent.

I like TVD, 1st because of the vampire-related stories. I used to love vampires so much but now I've come back to my senses like 'Duh, vampires do not even exist!!'. Haha. Just like how I used to like Twilight when the 1st movie came out but not anymore. The 'like' somehow turns to 'hate' due to inevitable reasons. Blergh.
But still, I like watching the series. The series always keep on going to be more interesting and more interesting. Each episode always has a good story involving lot of things; love, sadness, madness, creepiness, and such. To make it even good, the music usually fits for that particular scene and it helps you to get the feeling. Ugh, that's LAME. Whatever. Haha.

And usually after I finish watching the episode (one episode per week), I'll head to the forum and read whatever theories people had in their mind regarding that episode. Trust me, you'll find a lot of it and some are ridiculous too. XD

But one thing I do remember is about Damon compelling Elena when he's trying to give Elena's necklace back to her. He confessed that he likes her but he doesn't deserve to be with her, her brother, Stefan does.

The theory is that Damon's effort to compel Elena didn't work out and Elena actually remembers that part. In earlier scene when Elena's trying to lure Elijah with vervain, she spilled some of the vervain to her body so even without her necklace, she still has some of the vervain and that would not work for Damon to compel her. Well it's something like that,

See? The theory is somewhat true if you believe it but I highly doubt that. Haha. Whatever.

I'm just saying that I love the series and I love it even more that it makes people go crazy analyzing the series and even came out with super awesome theories. Don't they have anything to do?? Haha.

For the last episode 11, here are some of my thoughts.

-I was surprised to see Elijah made a deal with Elena.

-I don't really like seeing Tyler with Caroline. I kinda want Caroline to be with Matt. xD

-For once, I thought Luka is a good one as compared to his father, but Dang, I was wrong. Poor Bonnie.

-Jules is the werewolf and I hate her. I hate her because she's Lindsey from OTH. It has nothing to do with TVD anyway. Huuu..

Actually there are tons but it would take me forever to write everything. Besides, it doesn't matter anyway since the series is so unexpected. How I wish I could read the novels but then again, I'm not an avid reader. I used to be one when I have a neighbor who owns a library of books and novels in her house. Ever since I moved, I stopped being one. As for now, I prefer something that you can see. Anime, movies, TV series, all of it would be perfect to fill my free time.

And here's the lovely song from TVD's episode 11, Longest Night.

Is it dark, where you are?
Can you count the stars where you are?
Do you feel like you are a thousand miles from home?

Are you lost, where you are?
Can you find your way when you're so far?
Do you fear, where you are?
A thousand nights alone

So here we are set into motion
We'll steal a car and crash in the ocean
You and I, caught in a fading light
On the longest night

It's enough, just to find love
It's the only thing to be sure of
So hard, to let go of
A thousand times or more
I was close to a fault line
Heaven knows, you showed up in time
Was it real?
Now I feel, like I'm never coming down

So here we are, set into motion
Steal a car, crash in the ocean
You and I, caught in a fading light
On the longest night

I recall when we were together
Even now it seems like forever
So alive caught in a fading light
On the longest night

Can we go too far to find, what is waiting here?
A little fall from grace
On the longest night

Did we go too far to find, what is waiting here?
We'll take a little time, to open again

Is it dark where you are?
Can you count the stars where you are?

P/s: I'm waiting for new episode of White Collar.
